Once all active orthodontic tooth movement is complete, we will remove your braces, and the retention stage of your treatment will begin. Dr. White will provide you with retainers to maintain your corrected tooth position. There are different types of retainers. Some retainers are removable, and some are permanent. Dr. White will determine which type of retainer will work best for you.
When you receive your retainers, we will provide detailed instructions on how often and how long your retainers need to be worn. Studies have shown that tooth position is constantly changing throughout life. This is true of all individuals, regardless of whether they have had orthodontic treatment or not. The only way to perfectly maintain the tooth position achieved during orthodontic treatment is to wear your retainer for the prescribed duration.
